Month-by-month hatch timing and fly pattern recommendations for Little Lehigh Creek in 2026. A limestone spring creek in Allentown with Class A wild brown trout and year-round fly fishing from midges in winter to Sulphurs and White Flies in summer.
Little Lehigh Creek Hatch Calendar — Quick Reference
Little Lehigh Creek flows through Allentown and Lehigh County, fed by limestone springs that hold water temperatures near 52 degrees year-round. It is a rare urban spring creek with genuine Class A wild brown trout water running through a city park setting.
The stream sees heavy angling pressure given its proximity to a large population center, but consistently produces quality fishing. The fish are selective and the stream runs clear. Stealth and fine tippet matter here more than on most PA streams.
Year-round opportunities exist. Midges fish from December through March. Sulphurs run May through July. The White Fly hatch in August is worth an evening trip. Tricos require early morning presentations on 6X tippet in summer.

Check Conditions Near Little Lehigh CreekWhat to Fish
Ephemerella dorothea
The most reliable dry fly hatch on the Little Lehigh. Evening emergence from May into July. Limestone spring temps make this hatch consistent and dense. Selective fish in flat, clear water require good presentations.
Recommended: Sparkle Dun #16-18
Ephoron leukon
Massive evening hatches in August. Trout feed aggressively in the flat sections as dusk settles in. A unique event on a limestone spring creek. The clear water and educated fish still require reasonable presentations even during a blizzard hatch.
Recommended: White Wulff, Comparadun #14
Tricorythodes sp.
Morning spinner falls from July through September. The clear limestone sections and selective fish make this demanding. 6X tippet, early starts, and careful approaches. Over by 9am most days.
Recommended: Trico Spinner #22-26
Chironomidae
Spring water temps keep midges active through winter. One of the few places in PA to find consistent winter dry fly fishing on small midge patterns. The urban park setting means easy access year-round.
Recommended: Zebra Midge, WD-40 #22-26
