About Penn's Creek

Penn's Creek flows 70 miles through Centre and Mifflin counties, fed by massive limestone springs that keep water temperatures stable year-round. That stability is why hatches here run 1 to 2 weeks ahead of freestone streams in the same region.

The stream holds self-sustaining wild brown trout and is designated Class A wild trout water through most of its length. Fish are selective and well-educated. Fine tippet and drag-free presentations are standard practice.

The Green Drake hatch in late May and early June draws anglers from across the country. Large creamy duns blanket the water at dusk, triggering aggressive surface feeding from big browns. The White Fly hatch in August is a second major event worth planning around. Sulphurs carry evening fishing from May through July.
