Month-by-month hatch timing and fly pattern recommendations for Pine Creek in 2026. A wild trout stream flowing through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon with remote access, cold water, and a late hatch calendar from April through October.
Pine Creek Hatch Calendar — Quick Reference
Pine Creek flows through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon in Tioga and Lycoming counties, one of the most dramatic settings for fly fishing in the East. The canyon walls rise over 1,000 feet on either side. Access is limited to trail or the Pine Creek Rail Trail, which keeps pressure light.
The stream holds wild brown trout in the main stem and native brook trout in the side streams and upper reaches. Water runs cold well into summer due to elevation and canyon shade. Hatch timing runs late compared to PA's limestone creeks.
Quill Gordons in April start the season. March Browns and Hendricksons follow in May. The Green Drake hatch arrives in June, running 2 to 3 weeks behind Penn's Creek. The remote setting rewards anglers willing to hike in for uncrowded water during the hatch.

Check Conditions Near Pine CreekWhat to Fish
Epeorus pleuralis
The opening act of spring on Pine Creek. Afternoon emergence on cool April days. Cold canyon temperatures push this hatch later than lower-elevation streams. Fish the dun in broken pocket water where browns concentrate in early season.
Recommended: Quill Gordon #12-14
Ephemerella subvaria
Peaks in early May on Pine Creek, running later than limestone creeks due to elevation. Afternoon emergence on warm days. The canyon shade keeps temperatures cool and can extend emergence into early evening.
Recommended: Comparadun, Parachute Adams #12-14
Ephemera guttulata
Pine Creek's Green Drake runs in June, 2 to 3 weeks behind Penn's Creek. Evening hatches of large duns in the canyon. The remote access means fewer anglers competing for the same fish. Worth the hike.
Recommended: Coffin Fly, Comparadun Drake #8-10
Neophylax sp.
Large orange caddis on warm October afternoons. The canyon setting is stunning in fall foliage. Brown trout in peak condition. Minimal competition from other anglers.
Recommended: October Caddis #14
