Month-by-month hatch timing, fly pattern recommendations, and current conditions for the Weber River in 2026. The Weber flows from the Uinta Mountains through Echo Canyon toward Ogden with wild rainbow and brown trout, consistent hatches from April through October, and far less pressure than Utah's premier tailwaters.
Weber River Hatch Calendar — Quick Reference
The Weber River drains the western Uinta Mountains and flows west through Echo Canyon and Weber Canyon before reaching the Wasatch Front near Ogden. The best trout water is in the upper sections through Echo Canyon near Coalville and in the Weber Canyon stretch near Morgan. Cold mountain water and good habitat support wild rainbow and brown trout populations throughout these sections.
The Weber is one of Utah's more underutilized trout rivers. It lacks the reputation of the Green River or Provo but offers quality fishing with significantly less pressure. Access along I-84 through Echo Canyon and US-89 through Weber Canyon makes most of the river reachable by car. Fish average slightly smaller than the major tailwaters but are in good condition and willing to rise to dry flies.
BWO hatches in April and October are reliable on the Weber. Caddis is the main surface event from May through August, with June being the most consistent month. PMDs appear in May through July, with June being the peak month. Trico spinner falls happen in late July and early August on the smoother sections. An Autumn Caddis hatch in September and October extends the dry fly season.
Water levels on the Weber can vary significantly depending on snowpack and releases from Echo and Rockport reservoirs. Checking conditions before trips is worthwhile, particularly in spring when high flows can limit wading. Midsummer flows are usually stable and wading-friendly throughout the canyon sections. Fall is often the best season for consistent conditions and less traffic from other river users.

Hydropsyche sp.
Caddis is the most reliable surface hatch on the Weber from May through August. June evenings produce the densest emergences throughout the canyon sections. An Elk Hair Caddis in size 14 to 16 handles most situations. Evening rises along the banks and in the riffles can be productive for an hour or two before dark. Soft hackle wet flies work well during caddis activity as fish take the emerging pupa just below the surface.
Recommended: Elk Hair Caddis, X-Caddis #14-16
Baetis sp.
BWOs on the Weber are most reliable in April and October, typically on overcast or drizzly days. Spring hatches arrive as winter flows stabilize and temperatures rise. Fall BWO fishing in October often produces the most consistent surface activity of the fall season on the Weber. A Sparkle Dun or CDC Dun in size 18 to 22 handles rising fish during both windows.
Recommended: Sparkle Dun, CDC Dun #18-22
Ephemerella infrequens
PMDs are active on the Weber from May through July, with June being the most consistent month. Morning and early afternoon emergences draw fish up in the pools and flat sections. A Comparadun in size 16 to 18 is the right fly. PMD fishing on the Weber overlaps with the caddis in June for some of the best dry fly days of the season. Fish the smoother run-outs and pool tails where emerging duns are most visible.
Recommended: PMD Comparadun, Sparkle Dun #16-18
